CAPTAIN MAX CAMPBELL

Captain Max Campbell

Captain Max Campbell learnt to sail at age four in Bristol Harbour, UK. He quickly fell in love and spent most of my childhood competitively racing dinghies. At 18, he bought a 22' wooden cruising boat, and a few years later, he left to sail across the Atlantic singlehanded.

After two solo Atlantic crossings, Max arrived back in the UK and began rebuilding a 1970s Swan 37 with a group of friends. A year later, they set off on a circumnavigation. The last 5 years has been spent sailing between the UK and New Zealand, funding the voyage through professional sailing work, social media, and writing for the world's largest sailing magazines. Max is currently writing and is the sole author of ‘South Pacific Anchorages’, a pilotage guide to the South Pacific published by Imray and the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation.

Max holds a RYA YachtMaster Offshore (Commercial Endorsement), AEC 1&2, STCW 2010, ENG1 Medical and RYA Powerboat II. He has a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography from the University of Southampton and has most recently been awarded Young Voyager of the Year in 2023 by Cruising Club of America and Yachtsman of the Year in 2018 by Classic Boat Magazine.

You can find Max on YouTube at @UntideSailing or on Instagram at @un.tide where you can witness his love of adventure, his enviable skill set, adaptability and seamanship.  On board Crazy Horse, Max  creates unforgettable experiences for guests while ensuring the highest safety standards. Your time onboard Crazy Horse with Max will be truly unforgettable.
